The buses in Busan weren’t much different from the ones in Seoul.

If you visit Korea, try the strawberries. Many other fruits are better/cheaper in other countries, but strawberries in Korea are SUPERB compared to the ones in North America or Europe.

The spicy-looking stuff is called Ddeok-Bok-ki. “Ddeok” means rice. I refuse to call this food “rice cake,” because there is actually something called rice cake cake, meaning, cake made from Ddeok.

한국을 방문한다면 딸기를 먹어볼 것. 다른 많은 과일이 다른 나라에서 더 맛있거나 더 싸지만, 한국의 딸기는 북미나 유럽의 것보다 월.등.하.다.

매워 보이는 건 떡볶이. 누누히 여러 군데에서 말했듯이, 절대 이것을 rice cake라고 부르기가 싫다. 왜냐하면 떡케이크란 것이 있으니까. Rice cake cake makes no sense.

I thought the cups looked familiar, and they turned out to be Villeroy & Boch, of which my mom owns some cups/plates/bowls/etc.

컵이 낯이 익는다 했더니, 빌레로이앤보흐였다. 우리 엄마가 컵/접시/그릇 등을 몇 개 갖고 계심…

🇺🇸 At the printer’s!!! I’ve never seen such a huge machine in person! The thing in the second picture (top middle) fills an entire hall. There are four corridors (???) of the machine into which a person can walk into. These are each for CMYK: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. The printing process is quite manual. An actual person manually adjusts the color mix!

At first, our book cover was too yellow. Then, it was too red. Then, it was too green.

But eventually, the printer person found the right balance.

🇰🇷 인쇄소!!! 이렇게 거대한 기계를 직접 본 건 처음이다! 두 번째 사진(맨 위 중간)에 있는 기계가 홀 전체를 채운다. 기계에 네 개의 골목 (???) 같은 게 있는데, 그 안으로 사람이 들어갈 수 있다. 각각 CMYK를 나타낸다: 사이안, 마젠타, 노랑, 검정. 인쇄 과정이 상당히 수동적이었다. 실제 사람이 수동으로 색 조합을 조절한다!

처음에는 책 표지가 너무 노랬다. 그다음에는 너무 빨갰다. 그다음에는 너무 초랬다.

하지만 결국 인쇄소 부장님이 적당한 균형을 찾았다.

🇺🇸 A restaurant (a restaurant collection? collective?) where various smaller lots sell beef intestines. It gets quite smoky in here, but Hyewon and I were there before peak time, so it was all good. And the food was delicious.

The left-bottom picture: bench-type seats, where the seats open up, so you can put in your jacket/coat. That way, your jacket/coat (which is usually something you can’t simply wash in the washing machine) doesn’t smell like smoke afterward!

There are various interesting features like these at Korean food places.

🇰🇷 작은 점포들이 곱창을 파는 식당 (혹은 식당 모음? 콜렉티브?). 연기가 꽤 자욱해지지만, 혜원이랑 나는 피크 타임 이전에 갔기에 괜찮았다. 그리고 음식이 엄청 맛졌다.

왼쪽 아래 사진: 벤치형 좌석. 좌석이 열려서 그 안에 외투를 넣을 수 있게 되어 있다. 그리하여 (대개는 세탁기에 간단히 돌릴 수 없는) 외투가 식사 후 연기 냄새를 풍기는 걸 막을 수 있게 된다!

이런 신박한 디자인들이 한국에서 음식을 파는 곳들에 가면 있곤 하다.
